Our platform was built to help freelancers establish new relationships, manage project workflow and do their jobs efficiently and easily. Here are some simple guidelines to ensure that you have the best experience using Ebyline

Working with Clients

Here’s a simple list of Don’ts that will keep you compliant and productive in the Ebyline network.

Don’t take jobs off Ebyline.

Taking projects that were posted on Ebyline and working on them independently is against our rules, and puts you in danger of getting scammed. If you work directly with clients, you will forfeit all the protection Ebyline affords you. Work safely and rest assured that you will always get paid for your work.

Don’t give clients your financial information.

With our platform taking care of payment, clients don’t need this information to complete the job. We keep your financial information safe and secure, so should you.

Don’t buy anything to complete a job.

Taking on an expense should never be a requirement for any job. There are no guarantees that you will be reimbursed after the job is done.

Don’t work on spec.

Use your profile to highlight your awesome portfolio, and your experience will sell itself. If you make samples for companies before the job is awarded, there’s a chance you’ll never hear from them again.

Pitches and Proposals

Here’s a list of best practices for responding to proposals and getting more work. Follow these guidelines to build the impression that you are responsible, accessible and easy to work with.

Be selective.

Only take jobs that suit your talents and that you can complete within the required time frame. You know what you are worth, so if the rate for the job seems low to you, don’t respond. We want to connect the right talent to the right project, so don’t spam clients by submitting boilerplate, placeholder or generic pitches.

Be clear about project scope.

Work with the client to clarify their needs, develop the project scope and outline deliverables. Clearly document the project to make sure that everyone is on the same page before starting any project.

Be realistic about deadlines.

Only set expectations you can meet or exceed. It’s a good practice to provide a bit of a buffer, just in case something unforeseen happens. If a deadline cannot be met, be sure to notify your client sooner rather than later, and work out a reasonable extension for the project’s completion.

Be prepared for revisions.

Sometimes you can hit it out of the park in the first draft, but most of the time, revisions are a part of the job. You are the best at defining how you work, so use your experience to estimate how long it would take for you to complete a project. It’s a good idea to build revisions into the project scope, making provisions for time or budget extensions, if the project grows beyond scope.

Be reasonable about your rate.

Don’t submit unreasonably low project rates, or test projects, just to get the job. If you wish to submit a response, but need more information, just send a comment with your questions, state your assumptions about the project and indicate that you will update the response once you receive more information.

Be available for contact.

Provide all your contact information, office hours and committed response time. As a general rule, you should respond within one business day to all project-related communication, whether from the client or from Ebyline. Always inform the client if you will be unavailable for more than one business day.

Be Honest.

We want everyone to be happy, so don’t submit pitches or responses with the intent to commit fraud or violate the Terms of Service. That’s just bad karma.

Completing a Project

When you are hired for a job, follow these rules designed to make the project go smoothly.

Use Ebyline as your primary communication tool.

To keep the project on track, Ebyline keeps an electronic record of all written communication between you and the client. Log onto Ebyline to manage the project, track milestones and submit deliverables.

Maintain records of ALL your communications.

Transcribe relevant emails, instant messages, telephone or in-person conversations between you and the client into the project. It’s always good to use Ebyline as the official record of what was mutually agreed upon, to prevent any misunderstanding.

Keep your clients informed.

To keep your clients up to date on project status, use Ebyline to track feedback, handle revisions or schedule changes. We make it easy to confirm approvals, mark the completion of milestones and notify clients if you are unavailable.

Handling disputes

As hard as you may work to keep things on track, things may not always go as planned. Never fear, our support staff is always available to smooth out any bumps toward project completion. Just email us to explain the situation. Provide as much information as you can and we’ll work it out. It’s just another benefit of working in the Ebyline network.

Big Brother, but in a good way

We want to make sure everyone has a fair and equitable experience working with us. Our editorial and support staff are always reviewing projects to make sure that clients and freelancers are adhering to the guidelines. If we have concerns, we will reach out. We’re dedicated to addressing minor issues, before it grows into a real problem.

The Fine Print

Here are a few legal things you should know about working with Ebyline.


When you work with Ebyline, you acknowledge and agree that, pursuant to the User Agreement,  you must use Ebyline as your exclusive method to request, make and receive all payments for work arising out of projects created in Ebyline.

Clients shall make all payments relating to, or in any way connected with, a project through the Ebyline platform. Any action that encourages or solicits complete or partial payment outside of the Ebyline platform is a violation of this Agreement. Should a client be found in violation of this section of this Agreement, they will owe Ebyline an amount with respect to each project equal to the applicable fees had the payments been processed through the Ebyline platform.

Working outside of the Ebyline Platform

You’re not locked into our network. Notwithstanding the provisions set forth above, users may agree to provide or receive services outside of the Ebyline platform with users identified through Ebyline, so long as the projects involved are not and have never been posted through Ebyline.
